Our technology and your data

What the technology does

The sky is calculated from the Hipparcos and XHIP star catalogues, with the time zone, daylight saving and the precession of the equinoxes; the details are in the guide How a star map is calculated.

The same engine draws the preview you see on screen and the poster that is printed: what you approve is what is made. Your composition is kept only for the length of the visit, in the page, without writing anything to your browser.

What we do not do

• no cookies and no data stored in your browser;
• no advertising trackers, no social network pixels, no audience measurement, no profiling;
• no fonts and no images loaded from another domain: everything is served by us;
• no resale, exchange or rental of your data.

What we collect, and why

Only what is needed to process your order: your name, your email address, the composition of your map, the amount and the invoice number and, for a printed poster, the delivery address and the phone number the carrier requires. The name of the place you type is sent to a mapping service from our server, never from your browser, and with nothing that identifies you.

Payment

Payment is processed by Mollie B.V. (Netherlands) on its own servers: your bank details are entered with them and never pass through our servers. We keep no card number.

Where your data is, and for how long

The site, the database and the files are hosted in France with OVH, and no transfer takes place outside the European Union. Orders and invoices are kept for ten years, as the law requires; your order’s files remain downloadable through your private link for at least three years; server logs are kept for twelve months at most.

Your rights

You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability of your data by writing to contact@mycustomstarmap.com; we reply within one month. Erasure cannot cover what the law requires us to keep, such as invoices. The full text is in the privacy policy.
