Hoe de hemel wordt berekend

Voor de plaats, datum en lokale tijd die je kiest, zetten we de tijd om naar wereldtijd, berekenen we de lokale sterrentijd, corrigeren we de sterposities voor de precessie van de equinoxen sinds het jaar 2000 en projecteren we de zichtbare helft van de hemel op een schijf (stereografische projectie, noorden boven, oosten links zoals wanneer je omhoog kijkt). De nauwkeurigheid is ongeveer een tiende graad, veel fijner dan een poster kan tonen.

De kaart is een artistieke weergave van echte gegevens: sterren zwakker dan magnitude 6, planeten en de maan worden niet getekend.
